It’s midsummer and the warm Ohio days seem to be speeding by, bringing the inevitable brisk, Fall weather closer and closer with each passing hour. So much to get done in these precious few warm, sun-drenched days and such little time. How to truly enjoy it without getting caught up in the ‘should-do’s’ and ‘have to do’s’? How to make time to get present, get grounded? How to slow down and drink it all in?
Simple. Just quiet the mind. If that idea conjures up images of a monk sitting cross legged on a mountain, it’s time to expand your perception of meditation. The almost imperceptible background mind-chatter that follows us day in and day out has a tendency to keep us either in the past or future, never quite in the moment. The good news is that quieting the mind through meditation is a simple as breathing. Trying to stop the mind-chatter is difficult, especially when we’re in a quiet space, so why not give the mind an easy task to focus on? Breathing in an breathing out.
Our Lava Scrubs were formulated with the intention of connecting mind, body and breath. The world outside might as well be a million miles away while we bring our attention to each inhale/exhale and the slow motions of massage. Creating a meditative ritual that coincides with daily self-care can help with those of us who struggle to carve out ‘me time’. It simply becomes a part of our life practice.
Here's to mindful mornings and long, hot summers....
Mindful Essential Oil Blend:
This blend is floral/woody, calm and centering. Use as a room spritz before sitting for meditation, practicing yoga or simply use as a super-yummy room refresher.
4 oz distilled water
2 tsp. grain alcohol, vodka or witch hazel to help disperse the essential oils and extend the life of your spray.
10 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
2 drops Sandalwood essential oil
Pour distilled water and alcohol into bottle, then add your essential oils drop by drop. Allow to sit for at least 24 hours before using to allow the oils to mix and deepen. Shake well before using.
Cautions: Always educate yourself about the properties of oils before using, avoid use during pregnancy, around young children and with those who have asthma. Some essential oils can discolor upholstery and fabrics, so only spray directly on fabrics you know can tolerate essential oils.
